ectropion

Ectropion of eyelids indicates out turning of eyelids. This may occur due to various causes such as loosening of eyelid structures in elderly, or a skin scar that pulls the eyelid outward among various causes.

If this patient, the cause was aging induced changes in eyelid soft tissues that led to an outward turn of eyelids. He had continuous watering of the eyes due to this issue despite the water drainage pathway being patent.

He underwent and eyelid tightening procedure under local anaesthesia that took an hour, that corrected all the factors that were leading to this problem . A month after surgery, he was seen to be healing well and had no watering issue.

Ectropion due to skin shortening or scar will likely require a skin graft for correction. Ectropion correction in adults can be safely done under local anesthesia as a day care procedure.
